Rhipsalis baccifera 'Red Coral', commonly known as the Mistletoe Cactus, is a cultivated form of the widespread Rhipsalis baccifera. While the species occurs naturally across tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, Africa, and islands such as Madagascar, this selection is grown for its ornamental stem colouring under certain conditions.

The stems are long, slender, and cylindrical, branching from the tips to produce trailing growth that can extend several metres when mature. They are typically green but can develop reddish to coral tones when exposed to higher light levels, particularly in cooler seasons. The flexible stems form cascading curtains in hanging or elevated displays.

Small, white flowers appear along the stems, followed by rounded, whitish to translucent berries. In its native habitats, these fruits are dispersed by birds, helping the species spread through forest canopies.

Care Tips:

  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light; a small amount of soft direct morning sun can help bring out red tones in the stems.
  • Water: Keep evenly moist during active growth, allowing the surface of the media to dry slightly before rewatering; reduce watering in winter.
  • Humidity: Prefers moderate to high humidity; mist occasionally if indoor air is dry.
  • Media: Use a free-draining mix containing fine orchid bark, peat or coir, and perlite.
  • Temperature: Maintain between 15–27°C; protect from frost.
  • Fertiliser: Feed every 4–6 weeks in the growing season with a diluted, balanced fertiliser.
  • Repotting: Repot every 2–3 years or when root-bound, ideally in spring.

Does not fray.
Size: Medium (23.60")
My 70# poodle loves playing with it. She throws it in the air and catches it and brings it to me and I throw it or I tug with her. It’s very sturdy.

Rope chew
Size: Medium (23.60")
It’s perfect for an over aggressive dog chewer, especially a puppy has worked phenomenally. Well he has not chewed through it, which is amazing. We’ll get it again, but a bigger one as he grows.
